What
do pens, microscopes and cars have in common ? They all use a little known
material called motion control
gel - a very special form of grease. This material is both slippery
and ‘sticky’ at the same time and imparts a slow and smooth
feel when two parts in contact are turned or moved. The feel of a microscope
as the barrel moves for focussing or the slow movement of a car ashtray
opening are both examples. A cheap pen whose nib moves in and out as you
turn the barrel is made to feel much more expensive if a tiny amount of
the gel is used for lubrication.
